I can understand how you feel - when we make any type of gift we put a little bit of ourselves in it. Besides putting an ad in your local paper, you can see if your local fabric shops will let you put up a notice. In our online world you can list your quilt on the Lost Quilt Come Home website. Best of luck finding it!
